I had a client back out of a scheduled session.... in which I rented studio space. So what happens when I have a space and no client? I grabbed a friend that is home for the holiday and ask her to come "play". And this friend happens to be training to be a Yoga instructor in Boston... so we were able to try all sorts of things.
This session is different than my normal sessions because I didn't use my big lights... I went for a more simplistic look. And one can never go wrong with a classic black and white. I'm still curious what yoga would look like using my style of lighting, but we'll try that on another day. For now, enjoy:
I had the privilege of photographing Rodney Johnson, as part of his submission process for 1st Phorm. He also worked with Bald Media's Matt Miner to create a video submission . <- Go watch his YouTube submission to see his backstory - it's pretty amazing to see how he overcame so much in his life.
Thanks to Grandview Pro Fitness for allowing us to use their gym as our location for the day.
Krista was the first trainer a the UU that I photographed. She allowed me to experiment with my lighting and posing when I was brand new to fitness photography. (For those that don't know, fitness photography is really different than my normal portraits that I've been doing for the last 7 years). Those first pictures were good for what they were, but looking back at them, they were rough!! So every couple of months, I would re-do her pictures - hoping to give her more professional looking photos in the quality that I know I'm capable of. And, finally, here they are:
Bosu Ball push ups are hard enough, but Krista added some flight to these:
Although we are both very happy with these pictures, expect to see more of Krista in the future. I will always go back to her when I'm trying new things ;)
Also, today is Krista's Birthday - Happy Birthday Krista!!!
The Box Jump... much harder than it looks. I've photographed athletes/trainers/cross-fitters doing the box jump, but that was before I started trying to photograph each stage of the jump. Watch these two in slow motion jump below, then see how it looks to collage it into one photo. (I have a challenge posted below, if you think you can do the box jump better).
Think you can do it better?!?! Contact me, then gather at least 5 friends together ($10 each), and we'll do a jump-off... to see who can jump the highest while keeping the best form.
I don't just photograph individuals showing off their physique and fitness strength. I also photograph facilities - for new marketing materials. I recently visited the Ultimate U (UU) in New Albany. Here is a tour of their newly remodeled facility.
The lobby - the front desk staff is just as friendly as the atmosphere.
The Main Gym:
Fight Class (And other group classes):
Men's & Women's Locker Rooms:
Relaxation Room - that provides a quiet space away from distractions:
Rooms Not Pictured:
+ Massage Therapy
+ Physical Therapy
+ Neuroptimal Neurofeedback
Do you own a gym that needs updated photography for your marketing materials/website??
Contact me for a quote. I travel throughout Columbus, and Central Ohio... and sometimes beyond.
I had the opportunity to visit Zombie Cross Training in Columbus to photograph Devin. He showed off his amazing skills and strength during this shoot. Though the shoot was mainly geared towards Devin, near the end his wife, Amanda, jumped in for a few shots; and impressed me with her deadlift ;) (And for those of you that don't know me, I love doing deadlifts - so this was truly amazing to watch).
If you are interested in having Columbus Fitness Photography (CFP) come out to your gym for pictures,

We visited with personal trainer, Troy Butts up in Mount Vernon at Lashley Training Center this past Tuesday morning. Here are a few of our favorite shots.

Christian Livingston is my personal trainer at the Ultimate U Total Health (the UU) in New Albany, Ohio. We did some amazing shots that show off his dedication to fitness and strength training. Enjoy the photos:
Columbus Fitness Photography traveled up to Mount Vernon, Ohio to photograph Ian Lashley, owner of Lashley Training Center. He and Jeff La'flurr showed me their grappling moves for Ju Jitsu.
Rachel is one of the newest trainers at The Ultimate U Total Health (The UU) in New Albany, Ohio. She has been with The Ultimate U for a little over 3 months. However, she is not a brand new trainer. She was working with another gym prior to joining The UU family.
During our session, I also learned that she played basketball in college (though I could have guessed that by her height. And by watching her do box jumps.)
Rachel's box jumps were amazing!! The box was our highest level, and she made it look like nothing... she didn't have to squat deep for a push off - nope, it was really just a standing jump. As an observer, it was very impressive!!
If you are looking for a trainer, Rachel is still taking new clients. Her positive energy and friendly attitude will motivate any individual to push to be their best self!!! You can reach her at: email@example.com If you are searching for a gym, check out The Ultimate U Total Health in New Albany.
